Onset of spring

Painted on Apr 29th 2007

Some background:
I have recently joined Bob Ross’s painting classes. I have tried my hand in painting a couple of times without any success. Then I stopped trying after my high school. I always loved to watch paintings and dreamed of learning this art sometime, but I simply could not do it. I am a great fan of Raja Ravi Varma from a young age. I used to collect his paintings from different magazines for a long time.

My husband is a very good artist, but recently he had stopped painting. Watching Sree’s Canvas for a long time now and drooling over her paintings, I started asking him to paint again. He tried a couple of times and said he had lost touch. Then he thought of joining some classes here so that he could get back on track. When we were in the search of these classes, we found one such class in a Micheals store here. Till then, we didn’t know who Bob Ross is. My husband saw a Bob Ross painting kit and many brushes, books etc, and he started doing some research on him. As much as we learned about this amazing artist, we started loving him. Not only he was an amazing artist, but he had a charm to attract any person who watches him. Its a great loss that this person is no more among us.

One particular sentence from Bob Ross caught my attention. He keeps saying, “even a person who has never painted can start painting using this technique”. There..that was what I needed. My husband gave me necessary push and I joined the class(workshops) with him.

Now, about our teacher in this class – Keith Adams is one of the best teachers I have come across. The first day when I went to class, he told me I can do it. I took a lot of help from him, but the end result came out so good that I felt I am on seventh sky. He teaches each and every step so well that, even I can paint it. Now, we go to these workshops once in every 15 days. I am thoroughly enjoying it. I will update this post with my paintings as and when I go to workshops.

    Hi Shilpa,
You remind me of my own Aai. She is multi-talented like you, she eggs me on all the time but frankly I lack the patience and the commitment. Really happy to see all your work, the knitting, painting, recipes – just fabulous. Couldn’t leave without a comment:)
Me and my husband love to watch Bob Ross’s painting classes on Public Television. His voice is so soothing, his techniques seem so simple and effortless. You have done an excellent job here following his style. yeah, too bad he passed away.
By the way have you seen One-stroke painting yet? My aai used to watch it when she was here and she bought the entire kit along with an instructional video from Michaels. She is going great guns back home with that!!
